Do you have shrinking clothes? Blame it on winter!
Educating you about reasons for unwanted weight gains and counter strategies
Last spring you bought this absolutely fashionable dress or one of these extraordinary shirts where you were sure the quality lasts a lifetime. It is spring and the time comes to wear it again! You are so excited and put it on. Ouch! What happened? Do you have shrinking clothes? Blame it on winter!
It is so tight …it is itchy…It does not support your last year’s shape anymore.
What happened? Did your favorite clothing really shrink over wintertime while sitting in your dresser or closet? The truth is probably not.
But what happened really? There are quite some explanations that are possible like you moved into a gym over wintertime to become Arnold Schwarzenegger, or you were doing winter sports and gained a totally new shape, but most likely there is a much more common and simple reason: You just gained a bit more weight during the cold season. Your scale will prove it!
For a better understanding, let’s go back in time more than 10,000 years ago when our ancestors used to live in the woods and if lucky in caves. During this time when was food not always available, they gained weight whenever possible to use the body reserve when needed. That was mainly over the wintertime. Unfortunately, our body hasn’t changed too much since then, we still the same genes in our bodies. As soon it becomes cold with short days our cells become scared of an expected period with less food or even starvation. So the body uses its own protection mechanism and turns more nutrients into fat than usual. This process goes pretty much in hand with our modern time our tendency to stay at home in the warmth with an extra helping of food while it is cold, raining, and dark rather than putting on outdoor gear and exercise.
Now it is spring and you have all sorts of chances to get active again with a right plan of activities and exercises that target specifically on the newly gained extra fat or weight that keeps you away from your favorite clothes and a revised diet as our caveman ancestors were forced to do each spring to survive.
